This weekend we finally did two things that we have been meaning to do all summer. (Since the end of summer is in sight, it was a good thing we got both accomplished.) On Saturday we went to Rice Lake State Park for some canoeing and a picnic. The canoe trip was interesting with a toddler in the boat. Basically only one of us was paddling at a time. (Interestingly enough, I ended up doing most of the paddling on the way back when we were going against the wind.) Martin had a good time breaking apart a cattail that someone had left in the canoe. He threw the pieces over the edge of the boat and waved bye-bye to them. He also "helped" us along by making motorboat noises as we paddled. When we had our fill of canoeing, we headed to the picnic area to start a fire for supper. We were very proud that we remembered the matches this time. Unfortunately, I forgot just about everything else. We had no plates, no silverware, no napkins, and no roasting sticks. We made do with what we had though, and it didn't turn out too bad.
Today we took advantage of the warm weather and finally went to check out the new aquatic center in town. It has a zero entry area that Martin had a blast playing in. He loved going down the toddler size water slide and running through the water spouts. Unfortunately, we were only there about 20 minutes before they had to shut the pool down because someone threw up. It took them about 15 minutes to clean it up, but then they let us back in. Martin hardly let me get his shirt off as he made a beeline for the water. We stayed until he was shivering from head to toe.
