Last weekend we took Maddy on her first camping trip. She did great, and we all had a lot of fun. We went to Blue Mounds State Park which is near Luverne, MN. Dave decided that he wanted to see if it was possible to fit everything in the Flex. It was, but it is a good thing we only have three kids.
Even though we didn’t have a reservation (we are too cheap to pay the $7 reservation fee) we ended up with, in my opinion, the best campsite there. We were one of the few that had undergrowth to provide some privacy and decent shade throughout the day. We accomplished all our favorite camping activities. We went swimming, biking, hiking, visited the interpretive center, had campfires, and ate and ate and ate. On the way there, Dave noticed someone selling sweet corn, so he had to get some and we cooked it over the fire and grill. It was our first corn of the season, and the kids (especially Libby) couldn’t get enough.
Mmmm…corn
They are going to hate this picture when they get older.
I took this picture to show that Martin was using the kindling for building blocks, but it also shows how much Libby loved the corn.
Like I said, Maddy did great with the whole camping thing. She loves being outdoors, so that helped a lot. She never really got any decent naps, but slept amazingly well at night. The first night she slept straight through until 8:15. (I think that may be a new record for continuous sleep for her.)
Here she is just hanging out in her stroller.
One of the fun things about his park is that they have their own buffalo herd that roams free through a section of the park. We managed to get a couple really close up looks at them.
