I feel like I should explain why it has taken me so long to get this post put together. A little back story is needed: Dave was nervous about being locked in a moving vehicle with our kids for so long on our vacation, so he essentially made his own TV for the kids to watch while we were travelling. It consisted of a sleeve made out of cardboard and duct tape that my laptop slid into which was then wedged between the two front seats. He also bought wireless headphone for the kids to use so we could listen to our own music while the kids watched shows from PBS and the Disney channel that were stored on my computer. It was a great idea and on our stressful GPS-less trip from Camp Croix to Door county I decided to pull out the computer and give it a try. As I opened the lid I saw a flash on the screen and then the whole thing went black. It turns out that the wire that powers the monitor had broken and so my computer was worthless. (The kids were such good travelers during the whole trip though, that we didn’t even really need it anyways.) Anyways, I have been without my laptop until last week when Dave, the computer miracle worker that he is, was able to fix it. Why didn’t I finish the post last week you ask? Well it is because the same day that Dave got my computer up and running my birthday present came in the mail and I have been busy playing with my new toy, a Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet.
OK, back to our vacation. The day after we went to Bay Beach we went to Peninsula State Park. This was the reason that we hauled our bikes along. The park is huge and is well known for it’s bike trails. We had a picnic lunch packed and set out to bike a 10 mile loop that included stops at a lighthouse and a beach. Unfortunately we didn’t get far before we had to stop. A tire on Dave’s bike blew and so we had to head back. Fortunately we were less than a half mile from the trail head when it happened and the trail head was only a few hundred feet from a bike shop that was able to put a new tire on Dave’s bike in less than a half an hour. So the kids and I ate our picnic lunch a little earlier than planned while Dave got his tire replaced. Other than that though the day was great. We stopped at the lighthouse and took a tour and we spent some time at the beach. We also climbed to the top of a fire tower and watched as a storm rolled in over the lake. It was an exhausting, but really fun day.

Martin was a huge help to me when we were pedaling up the hills. He really worked hard and was so proud that he could help his mommy.

The next and last full day we laid low and relaxed at the hotel. Martin really surprised us with how much fun he had in the pool. He was swimming all over the place with his lifejacket on and even preferred the regular pool over the hot tub for the first time ever. For lunch we went to a neat little restaurant we had heard about where they bring your food out to you on a train. The kids loved it.

We were so busy out and about that we didn’t get to see a sunset over the lake until the last night we were there, but it sure was picturesque.
