Road Trip

We took a trip this weekend to visit Kevin and family in Antioch, Illinois. The main purpose of the trip was to take in some outdoor baseball as the Twins played the Brewers in Miller Park. Grandma W. came along to babysit while we went to the game. We had a lot of fun, but things didn't quite go as planned. First of all, what was supposed to be a 5 - 5.5 hour drive ended up taking over 8 hrs. It turns out that due to the flooding in Wisconsin a good chunk of I-90/94 was closed. Dave created his own detour it started out on a county road that had more curves in it than I have ever seen. At one point the road even did a U-turn. I don't know if it was the detour situation or not, but Martin learned how to say "Uh-oh" and repeated it over and over for a good portion of the trip. We did eventually get where we were going. However, much to Dave's disappointment, we had to stop at a different cheese shop than we usually do, but they did have this awesome mouse out front.

On Saturday we got a chance to see Ethan's baseball game before we took off for the Twins game. Here he is playing 2nd base.

Unfortunately, Ethan's game was the only outdoor baseball that we got to see that day. It rained before the Twins' game and so they had the dome shut for the game. We still had a lot of fun though. We even got bonus innings when the Braves Brewers tied it up in the end of the 9th inning. It was a blast watching the game with Ethan and Gabe. They both really got into it even though they are Red Sox fans. In fact, Gabe was responsible for starting a number of chants of "Let's go Twi-ins". Both Ethan and Gabe were really excited when the Twins took the lead and eventually won the game in the 12th inning. However, on the way out of the stadium Gabe had to ask us who won.

The return trip on Sunday wasn't quite as long as the trip there on Friday since we had advanced knowledge of which roads were closed. However, it still took us 7 hours to get home. (Poor Grandma had a 10 hour trip there and a 9 hour trip back.) Martin did remarkably well for being stuck in a car seat as long as he was. I think it helped that I bought him a pair of maracas for the trip.

Heidi you are an idiot... the Braves are in Atlanta, you watched the Brewers. On that note, I am extremely disappointed in you for being a Twins fan, as is Wisconsin, and it showed its disappointment by giving you flooded roads.

Good for you Heidi for being a Twins fan. Ignore Amanda. She's from Tennessee. Keep cheering for the Twins. Amanda has had too much moonshine (I assume that's all they serve when the Jack Daniels has run out).

...but yeah, you did watch the Brewers...not the Braves.

At least I was close...the Braves used to play in Milwakee.
